As I began to recover from leukaemia I became engrossed in fundraising for organisations that would support others finding a cure. The Leukaemia Foundation’s annual drive to sell silver and gold ‘teddy bears’ became just another event which I wholeheartedly put my effort into in primary school. Carrying teddy bears everywhere I went I sold them at school, church, home and any other place I could. I became well known for my fundraising and began to take part in speaking events to assist fundraising as I entered high school. Anything that I could offer to raise awareness and ever needed funding for research seemed worth it to me.
